When most people think of Disney, they think of fairy tales, fireworks, and theme parks. But beneath the surface of the magic is a deep well of leadership wisdom. As someone who has spent over 40 years working in educational environments, ministry, and community development, I’ve come to appreciate that the same principles that make Disney “the happiest place on earth” can also build strong schools, vibrant churches, and thriving communities.

Leadership Sets the Lid

John Maxwell’s “Law of the Lid” states that “leadership ability determines a person’s level of effectiveness”【1】. No organization—be it a church, school district, or nonprofit—can rise above the capacity of its leadership. Believe: Build belief in your team and your community.

Dare: Innovate, risk, stretch.

Do: Execute with excellence, no excuses.

These aren’t just business slogans—they’re transformational leadership actions. Imagine if our schools and ministries embraced this mindset. What if we dared to innovate in education, in worship, in outreach?

Students who are either bored or left behind are more likely to act out. That’s why engagement isn’t just a teaching method—it’s a discipline strategy.

As I often say: ENGAGED STUDENTS ARE DISCIPLINED STUDENTS!
