Words Can Hurt or Heal

But whatever [word] comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what defiles and dishonors the man. Matthew 15:18

The phrase “Bricks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me” is a LIE! Of course words can hurt. They can hurt in ways we cannot always see. Hurtful words can leave scars. They can wound a person’s spirit. They can touch to the core of a person’s heart. Hurtful words can also contribute in demeaning a person’s self-esteem, their self-worth. For some people it can take years to recover from the damage. And only God can heal a person’s spirit. Our words are to be ‘seasoned with salt,’ so we will know how to respond to a person, and when to speak. Our words are to be gracious, but also to have an effect, or purifying influence. We need the Holy Spirit to help us daily in our communication.

Make The Right Heart Connection

Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. -Psalm 139:23-24

Is your heart connecting with the Word of God?  Let us continue to pursue righteousness.  How we really feel about a person will be revealed through our communication and actions.  Our words reveal character.  The Lord tests hearts and minds.  Don’t take it upon yourself to scheme and plan to get even when someone hurts you.  The Lord can handle that person.  Give that person to the Lord in prayer.  Continue to walk in integrity, and be a blessing to the Lord and His Kingdom.  Mirror Christ.
