I Thought We Were Joined Together

I had an interesting conversation the other night with a friend of mine.  She was really discouraged and disappointed because she felt she wasn’t getting the help she needed to follow through with her dreams and purpose.  She said she knew the Lord had given her a gift, but she questioned why it was taking so long for the door of opportunity to open.  What really bothered her was why she wasn’t getting help from her brothers and sisters in Christ … those she is joined to.  I could hear the hurt in her voice, so I listened to her for as long as she needed to talk.  Before our conversation was over, I encouraged her with whatever the Lord laid on my heart to share, along with helping.

When I got off the phone, I was brought to tears just thinking about everything she said.  I was really grieved in my spirit.  And I thought to myself, “Lord, how can this be?”

And this is what I heard in my spirit:

There are many reasons Christians may not help each other.  But some have picked up the mindset of the world and not even know it.  The mindset of the world has crept its way into the Body of Christ in so many subtle ways, and can be manifested as follows:

Competition. Jealousy. Lip service. Me, myself, and I way of thinking. I got mine, so you’re on your own for getting yours. Why should I help you?  What have you done for me lately? You have helpful information, but won’t share it. You have connections that could be helpful, but won’t share them. You see another brother or sister in Christ as an enemy because they have the same gifting as you do. You feel threatened by another person’s gifts. You’re afraid people will start following someone else. You’re afraid the spotlight will be taken off of you. You want to help, but are afraid of what other people will think or say. This person is not in your clique. Why should I help you?  I got my own issues.

The scripture says “what’s done in darkness shall come to light.”  And I’m sure any one of us could be found guilty of such a mindset and manifesting it in our actions whether knowingly or not.

My prayer is that we all take the time for a real heart search, and that we be mindful we are all fitly joined together, every joint supplying.  Lord forgive us for at times being conformed to the world’s thinking, instead of being transformed by the renewing of our minds.
